Emily Day - Band Leader, Lead Vocalist
Emily Day is a Chicago native raised in Vermont, where she benefited from a small community that valued the creative arts. As soon as she began singing jazz in her high school jazz band, she was a sought-after jazz vocalist for local big bands and other professional musical collaborations.
Emily attended and graduated with honors from The New School's Jazz and Contemporary Music Program in New York with a degree in Vocal Jazz Performance. After graduating from the New School, Emily was appointed as adjunct faculty at the University of Vermont, Johnson State College, and St. Michael's College. There, she had the privilege of teaching lecture courses, music fundamentals and applied lessons in various contemporary styles. She continued her education at the Institute for Popular Music Studies at the University of Liverpool. Her research at the University explored the nostalgic function of the voice in popular music and she was awarded an MA in Popular Music Studies in 2010.
Taking a big risk, Emily moved to Berkeley, Ca in 2012 without any previous connections. After a year of hustling she met the Cosmo Alleycats and fell in love with their vibrant and playful approach to jazz and swing music. She has enjoyed the full-time position of lead singer and manager of the band ever since.
